What is the Weather like in Summer in Spain?

The most important part of any trip is the weather. Summer (June to August) in Spain you can expect hot and dry conditions, especially in inland areas like Madrid and Seville, where temperatures can soar above 35°C (95°F). Coastal areas like Barcelona and Valencia are slightly cooler but still warm. So, this means pack light clothing, especially if you are a sweat a lot like me.

What to Pack for Spain (The Tips!)

#1. Comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable

No matter where you go, you’ll find yourself walking in Spain a lot, so comfortable shoes are a non-negotanle. I typically bring three pairs of shoes with me in the summer: Teva sandals (perfect for the beach or sightseeing), tennis shoes, and a nice pair of flats for dinners. These are my favorite Tevas because they have a slight height to them and you can literally wear everywhere. They also come in this cream leather that would be perfect for a light travel shoe!

#2. A jacket for the evening is a must

Along the coast it tends to cool down quite a bit at night, so a light layer for dinner outside is a must! I with either bring a denim jacket (like this one) or a packable puffer jacket.

#3. Pack lightweight clothing that doesn’t show sweat

Like I said earlier, I am a big sweater (read that as: a sweaty person) lol. So when traveling anywhere super warm I tend to opt for clothing in light or dark colors, made of either cotton, linen, or my personal fave, workout fabrics! I love Lululemon’s tanks, or these for a more affordable option!

Six Easy Spain Outfit Ideas

These outfits consist of mostly affordable staples, and sometimes paired with a more expensive shoe of purse. This is how I personally shop and like to spend on clothing, but you do you! Each of these outfits consist of similar items that you can mix and match easily for your trip (hey capsule wardrobe!).

Spain Outfit Ideas #1: Crop top, linen shorts, linen shirt

Linen shirt | hat | tank top (with built in bra!) | linen shorts | bag | sandals | earrings

This outfit is perfect for a sightseeing day! Depending on where you are and what time you leave your hotel, it could be a little breezy. This linen is perfect to layer, and even roll up into your bag when the mid-day heat rolls in! I am obsessed with this tank top as it has a built in bra! I’ve got it in almost all the colors and it’s my go-to travel top. The linen shorts will keep you cool and paired with my all time favorite Teva sandals and Uniqlo coiss body bag, you’ve got an easy outfit!

Spain Outfit Ideas #2: Linen shorts, tank top, belt

CHEAP tank top with built in bra | sandals | purse | earrings

This is a little take on the first outfit, just elevated a bit if you are heading to dinner, or doing a more “city” day (think shopping, rooftop drinks, etc). It utilizes other items from this outfit list so you can mix and match with ease!

Spain Outfit Ideas #3: Linen dress with accessories

Linen super cheap dress | sandals | purse | earrings

When I found this dress I instantly fell in love! It’s the perfect length and fabric for day to night. This outfit idea is more of a date night outfit, since we paired it with a fancier purse, but I’ve got to say – I LOVE this one! It’s perfect for daytime too, and if yo want to dress it up more you can swap in these platform sandals instead! Depending on how much room you have these sandals would also go with other outfits from this trip and are so cute!

Spain Outfit Ideas #4: Bathing suit, cover up, sun hat

Linen super dress | sandals | purse | bathing suit bottoms | top

I love a beach outfit that I can also wear to lunch, and this is perfect! If you are looking for a more full coverage bathing suit this is a great option, or a full coverage one peice, paired with this dress = perfection!

Spain Outfit Ideas #5: Linen dress, tote, sandals

Strapless dress | sandals | purse

I love this outfit for its versatility. You can dress this up or down and it takes up no space in your suitcase. This dress is incredibly comfortable and lightweight. You can mix and match any of the above bags or shoes with a different look as well!

Spain Outfit Ideas #6: Linen shirt, crop top, cotton shorts

Linen shirt | sandals | best purse ever | crop top | shorts

This outfit is perfect for a day of sightseeing! It includes all the essentials you need to mix and match for various occasions, whether it’s a date night or a full day exploring the city. I love this top, and it even comes in a matching skirt for a super cute set!

    • Tank tops
    • White linen blouse (perfect for a cover-up at the beach or over a dress in the evening)
    • Dresses (beach, daytime and dinner out)
    • Shorts / Skirts
    • Bathing suit x2
    • Light layer / Jacket
  • Shoes:
    • Comfortable sandals
    • Tennis shoes
    • Cute sandals or heels

*Bonus* Accessory Packing List for Spain

Sun Hat | A cute sun hat is an absolute must when packing for Spain! It’s the perfect accessory for a beach day, or my favorite, when you can’t be bothered to wash your hair.

Sunscreen | Sunscreen is a must when you are visiting Spain, as no one wants a horrible sunburn on their first day of vacation. I always apply sunscreen before leaving for the day, as well as bring along these two sunscreens that fit easily in my purse to reapply during the day! Facial sunscreen mist | compact sunscreen for on the go

Two pairs of sunglasses | I love sunglasses not only for the eye protection (duh), but for the cute addition they can make to any outfit! I always bring along two pairs, especially if I am going to the beach. I’ve stepped on more sunglasses than I can count and ruined countless from the sunscreen, so two pairs is a must for me. I shared a few above that are super cute for the day time, but I also always bring a pair of polarized Ray-Bans with me. The Erika are my favorite!

Beach Tote | I love a beach tote so I can bring along all my beach day necessities: water bottle, sunscreen, chapstick, sunglasses, and a good book. This is the tote I used last summer in Spain and absolutely loved it!

Beach Towel | This may depend on where you stay, so check with your hotel or Airbnb beforehand. I always pack these Lululemon towels with us whenever we head somewhere with a beach. The Airbnb we stayed at this past summer did not provide beach towels so luckily I brought these along. They take up very little space and prevent you from buying a towel and then having to leave it behind. *Bonus these dry super quick and don’t smell because they are workout towels!

Face Wash | Olay’s new cleansing melts are a game changer when it comes to packing toiletries. With the warm, humid weather in Spain I found myself washing my face 3x per day as we changed from daytime at the beach to dinner outfits and makeup for the night, and these not only saved space in my suitcase, but they were so easy to use!

Olay Cleansing Melts + Hyaluronic Face Cleanser, 64 ct. total (2 x 32 ct.), Water-Activated Face Wash Cleans, Tones, and Refreshes Skin
