10 Romantic Portland, Oregon Date Night Spots (Perfect for Summer!)

Visiting Portland or a local looking for the perfect date night restaurant for you and your loved one? This guide shares my favorite Portland date night spots that my husband and I have been to again and again.

Quick context: My husband and I no longer live in Portland, Oregon, and I wasn’t always a blogger. This new side hustle began as a way to cope with the challenges of adjusting to life in Switzerland. In Portland, I never felt the need to make posts like this, and to be honest it didn’t even cross my mind. But as time passes, our ‘home‘ here still doesn’t feel like home, and I find myself reminiscing about our time in Portland. Our life was good, comfortable, homey, delicious, and oh so fun!

For a while, I thought it was silly to be stuck in the past, but I can’t shake it. Portland was a beautiful home for us, and I hope we can return one day. To help myself process these feelings, I’ve found that sharing beautiful (and delicious) spots has been therapeutic. I can honestly say that none of our date nights here have felt the same as those in Portland, and it makes me sad. I miss wandering around SE Portland, grabbing a beer at a brewery, enjoying pasta, and finishing the night with a glass of wine in a romantic outdoor bar.

So, here are some spots I love and know you will too. These are just a few of my Portland date night spots I personally love (and there are so many more!).

The Portland Food Scene

Portland’s food scene is truly something special. If you’re a foodie at heart, this city will steal your heart. Portland is all about fresh, local ingredients and innovative dishes you won’t find anywhere else. Here, food isn’t just something you eat – it’s an experience.

One of the coolest aspects of Portland is its farm-to-table culture. Many restaurants source their ingredients from nearby farms, ensuring that every bite is bursting with flavor. This commitment to quality shines through in every dish. And let’s not forget about the food carts! You can find everything from gourmet grilled cheese and Korean BBQ to vegan ice cream and authentic Thai street food. These food carts are scattered all over the city, creating little hubs of deliciousness where you can grab a quick bite or sample multiple cuisines in one go.

But it’s not just about the food – it’s also about the atmosphere. Portland’s restaurants range from chic and trendy spots to cozy, intimate eateries. Whether you’re looking for a casual night out or a more upscale dining experience, there’s a place that fits the bill. Many of these places also offer outdoor seating, perfect for those lovely summer nights.

Portland’s food scene is diverse, vibrant, and always exciting. It’s the perfect backdrop for a memorable date night, whether you’re a local or just visiting. So get ready to eat, drink, and fall in love with Portland’s culinary charm!

It also has to be noted that summer in Portland is pure magic and any local will tell you that. The warm weather and longer days mean more time to explore the city’s incredible dining scene and the air is just filled with joy and a vibe I really can’t explain. It’s like this: sipping on a chilled glass of wine while the sun sets, enjoying a mouthwatering meal under twinkling lights, or sharing dessert on a cute outdoor patio. Sounds dreamy, right?

So, grab your partner or bestie and get ready to discover these Portland date night spots that are absolutely perfect for those warm summer nights.

10 Date Night Spots in Portland, Oregon

#1. Fireside

Address: 801 NW 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97210 | $$ | New American

This is one you will see featured in almost every Portland food guide, and there is a valid reason for that. Fireside is a place you can cozy up in in the winter or summer, day or night. It’s simply perfect. Fireside is an excellent choice, known for its comforting, hearty dishes and welcoming vibe. The warm, rustic decor, combined with cozy fire-lit interiors, makes it perfect for a relaxed date. Don’t miss the Dick’s Burger and Crispy Brussels Sprouts. Fireside also offers a charming patio area for those lovely summer nights (think twinkly lights and charm). They also have a great Saturday and Sunday brunch!

#2. Navarre

Address: 10 NE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97232 | $$ | European inspired small plates & wine

Navarre brings a European-inspired touch to Portland with its focus on small plates. And I can attest to that as I currently live in Europe. The intimate and eclectic atmosphere is perfect for a cozy date. Signature dishes like their Potato Nettle Gratin and Chicken, Pork, and Mushroom Terrine are lovely. Not to mention their simple olives! Situated on Northeast 28th Avenue (which is one of my favorite streets & areas), Navarre offers outdoor seating and a menu that highlights fresh, seasonal ingredients, enhancing its summer appeal.

My husband and I spent many nights here trying new wines, talking about life, & even planning our move abroad!

#3. Le Pigeon

Address: 738 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214 | $$$ | French

Known for its innovative take on French cuisine, blending classic techniques with modern twists, Le Pigeon is at the ultimate date night spot. Their intimate setting, with its warm, rustic atmosphere and candlelit interiors, creates a perfect romantic vibe. They serve a tasting menu, that to be honest is on the higher end at $140 per person, but I promise you, you won’t leave hungry, or disappointed. Located in the heart of Portland’s East Burnside neighborhood, Le Pigeon offers some outdoor seating options, making it a delightful spot for summer dining!

#4. Casa Italia

Address: 3035 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202 | $$ | Italian

Located on Division is a colorful little house is one of my favorite Italian food spots in Portland. Casa Italia serves up no frills Italian food in a cozy atmosphere. Their outdoor seating is limited, but for a simple, delicious and chill date night – I love Casa Italia.

You can’t beat their Cappellini al Pomodoro, Rigatoni alla Bolognese, and wines by the glass.

#5. Bar Diane

Address: NW 21st Ave through the gate next to Eb & Bean, Portland, OR 97210 | $$ | Natural wine and local bites

Bar Diane is a natural wine bar that screams summer date night. Nestled in a back corner of 21st Avenue, this cozy spot offers a charming and intimate setting perfect for a romantic evening. The patio, surrounded by greenery and twinkling lights, is ideal for enjoying a glass of thoughtfully sourced organic wine. The frequently changing selection of natural wines means you can always try something new, and they have a great menu of small bites to pair along with your wine selection!

*Low quality pic, high quality wine & bites (I promise!).

#6. Canard

Address: 734 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214 | $$ | Fresh cocktails and meals from around the world

Canard a sister restaurant of le Pigeon, and is a trendy spot with an innovative menu, that’s a bit more laid back and affordable. The modern, casual vibe and creative dishes like the Foie Gras Dumplings and Steam Burger make it a favorite among locals. Situated on East Burnside Street, Canard is ideal for those looking for a relaxed yet exciting evening out, especially during the summer when the atmosphere is buzzing. They also have happy hour Monday-Thursday, 4-5pm where they serve $2 oysters and $4 steam burgers!

#7. St. Jack

Address: 1610 NW 23rd Ave, Portland 97210 | $$$ | French

A cozy spot right at on the bustling 23rd avenue (my favorite street in the whole city), is the charming French spot St. Jack featuring oysters, steak and frites, paired with local wines. They have a great outdoor patio that is sure to make you feel, just a tiny bit, like you are back in France!

#8. República

Address: 100 NW 10th Ave, Portland, OR 97209 | $$$ | Mexican forward tasting menu

República is known for its creative and elevated take on Mexican dishes. The restaurant focuses on using authentic ingredients and techniques to craft a menu that is both traditional and modern. It is a set menu, with each dish telling a story. This story is rooted in the rich culinary heritage of Mexico, and the servers share the beautiful story with you.

During the summer, República’s outdoor seating is a major draw. The patio offers a charming spot to enjoy your meal while taking in the warm summer breeze. The restaurant also emphasizes fresh, seasonal ingredients, which are highlighted in their summer menu, providing a delightful and refreshing dining experience. It’s truly a memorable experience, and special restaurant for a special occasion.

#9. Tropicale

Address: 2337 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97232 | $$ | Latin American & Caribbean-inspired small dishes & cocktails.

Summertime dates for me are best spent outdoors and Tropical is absolute perfection. If you are like me and are always dreaming of beach vacation – Tropical is the spot for you. This vibrant eatery offers Latin American and Caribbean-inspired small dishes and cocktails that transport you straight to the tropics. With its lively atmosphere and colorful decor, Tropicale makes for a fun and refreshing date night (+ the seating is all outdoors!).

The drinks at Tropical + their pulpo are made for a summer date night!

#10. Noble Rot

Address: 1111 E Burnside St. fourth Floor, Portland 97214 | $$ | Wine bar and small plates

For an unforgettable summer date night, Noble Rot is the place to be. This rooftop restaurant offers stunning views of the Portland skyline, making it the perfect spot for a romantic sunset dinner. Known for its farm-to-table cuisine, Noble Rot emphasizes fresh, local ingredients that shine in every dish. The ambiance is both chic and inviting, with a rooftop garden that adds to the charm. Enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sun set over the city, creating a magical and intimate atmosphere. Noble Rot’s combination of great food, excellent views, and a cozy rooftop setting makes it an ideal choice for a memorable evening out.

And of course, no date night would be complete without….ICE CREAM! Here are few of my favorite spots:

Fifty Licks

Locations: 2021 SE Clinton St #101, Portland, OR 97202 | 1647 NW 21st Ave, Portland, OR 97209

Want to end your date night in the best way possible? Head over to Fifty Licks and enjoy their ice cream (and vegan ice cream) flavors! Their Burnside location just faced a horrible fire, so make sure to head to one of their other locations listed above to give them some love and support.

We used to live across the street from Fifty Licks and I will NEVER take that for granted again.

Salt & Straw

Locations: They have six in Oregon, three in the city so check them out here!

We’ve been spoiled to live next to a Salt & Straw in both California and Oregon and it’s way too good. Their scraps are HUGE, and they feature monthly specials so you will never run out of new flavors to try. They also have dairy-free options!
