Portugal in the summer is hot, and I knew I wanted to pack light but still feel put together for our trip. I kept things simple with breathable fabrics, comfortable shoes, and easy outfits I could throw on without overthinking. We started in the Algarve, spent time on the beaches, and explored a few cities along the way before ending in Lisbon. And I’m happy to report, I loved everything I wore. It all traveled well, felt good in the heat, and actually got worn, no overpacking guilt this time! In this guide I share five Portugal outfit ideas, along with my packing list—accessories included!

We just got back from a hot and sunny week in Portugal—and I have to say, I really loved what I packed. Every outfit made me feel cute, comfortable, and ready for whatever the day brought. Whether that was wandering the tiled streets of Lisbon, grabbing drinks by the water, or heading out for a nice dinner. I stuck to a tight edit of pieces I genuinely loved and wore on repeat, which made getting dressed each day so easy.
Since I got a few questions about what I wore (and because I love seeing what other people pack for summer travel), I thought I’d round up all the outfits I wore in Portugal and share the exact pieces with you—plus some summer style inspiration in case you have a warm-weather trip coming up.
And if you’re planning a trip to Portugal soon, I also have a full Lisbon travel guide here with all the spots we loved—from where to eat to what to see.
What I Packed for Portugal
Levis Baggy Jean Shorts | These are a medium rise, true to size fit that I am obsessed with. I’ve been searching for a jean short that isn’t too tight, too high-rise, but also doesn’t look sloppy for ages, and these are just perfect.
White Jean Shorts | These are similar to the Levis, but a little looser fit, and that trendy A-line cut. I love a white short for summer vacation, as it just looks effortless and is so easy to style.
White Tank Top | I wore this tank multiple times in Portugal and am a huge fan. Everlane’s cotton items are my favorite and this tank it perfect for summer, as well as for layering. And it’s currently on sale for $22!
Linen Button Down | For mornings that are a bit cool, or you simply want to give your shoulders a break from the sun, a linen button down has to be in your suitcase. This one is my favorite from H&M and it’s only under $50! Shop it here!
Cropped Black Tank Top | I’ve had this tank top for years and it’s still one of my favorite pieces in my closet. The fabric is so soft, it’s the perfect length, and it hasn’t faded at all. I wore this multiple times in Portugal—with a skirt to dinner, with jean shorts over my bathing suit to the beach, and paired with a sweater to the airport. It’s just the best. Shop it here.
Pop of Color Dress | I wore a bright green/yellow dress to a fancy dinner in the Algarve, and it’s an old Zara fave, but this one is a similar color! I think you should always bring one dress that’s a pop of color, and this one is the most beautiful red, it’s perfect for summer vacation. Shop it here!
Cutout Dress | I love the cutout dress trend and there are so many adorable ones. This is the one I wore from Mango that I just love! Shop it here. It’s comfortable, super lightweight and breathable, and easy to dress up or down. I also love this one from Artizia with the cutout in the back!
Tiered Maxi Skirt | This is a very trendy item this season and it’s just perfect for hot weather days. Under $200 | Under $100
Linen Dress | A linen dress should definitely be in your suitcase for Portugal. It’s an essential fabric for warm weather, and will leave you cool throughout the day. I love this linen one from Madewell, with a subtle stripped pattern for a soft detail.
Bathing Suits | This is a given! I packed two swimsuits to mix and match during our beach days. I personally love this black one from LSPACE at Nordstrom. Shop the top | Shop bottoms

Accessories and Shoes I Packed
Woven Tote | From days at the beach to city exploring, I love this bag for just about everything! The best part is it’s $20 and I’ve had this for three summers now and it’s still in great condition!
Jewelry | I love jewelry in summer, and a coin necklace is always a favorite of mine, as well as a paperclip necklace (use code: LINDSALYSE20 for 20% off your order!), and colorful beaded piece. I always opt for gold hoops to complete any outfit. These are my favorite!
Teva Midform Sandals | I am not sure if people think these are cute or not, but I don’t really care. These are a non-negotiable summer shoe for me when it comes to travel. In Lisbon we walked 24,000+ steps DAILY, and comfortable shoes are a must. These leave my feet, and back, feeling great even after walking this many steps. Grab them here on Amazon | Shop!
Dagne Dover Crossbody Purse | I love this purse for its compact size, but that it still holds so much! It fits my Instax camera which I love (and always bring with me on vacation!).
Block Heel Sandals | I will admit, I didn’t wear near these enough to justify bringing them on vacation, but…I still love them and the one night I wore them I felt so cute! They are perfect for a night out, and elevating any simple outfit. The ones I packed are sold out, but these woven ones just might be better!
Gladiator Sandals | I wanted a shoe that was comfortable, but a little cuter than my Tevas and these gladiator sandals are perfect! I bought them in brown and they were perfect with my white shorts or knitted dress.
Woven Flats | I don’t suggest these for walking around Portugal, but they are perfect for a night out, or a day you plan to do less walking. I love this Woven raffia pair for an on trend shoe, that is super cute.
Sunglasses! | Probably the most important thing I packed. I brought two pairs, my favorite large frame Prada sunglasses, and then these a skinny oval pair like these.
Sun Hat | We didn’t end up taking too many beach pics this trip, but we had two full beach days and this sun hat was a necessity to protect my face (and newly colored hair!).
