The Best Casual Dining Restaurants in Zurich (Local’s Guide!)

Zurich might be known for its sophisticated dining scene, but some of the best meals here are found at casual spots you probably haven’t have seen on social media. Whether you’re planning a dinner with friends, a cozy date, or just treating yourself, these Zurich casual restaurants are perfect for those times when you just want something simple, welcoming, and absolutely delicious.

Tips for Casual Dining in Zurich

  • Reservation Tips: Many casual restaurants in Zurich welcome walk-ins, but a quick reservation can make sure you get a spot, especially during peak hours.
  • How to Get There: Zurich’s public transport is as easy as it gets! Trams and buses will have you covered, no need to worry about parking.

The Best Casual Dining Restaurants in Zurich

Bar Lupo

Address: Badenerstrasse 155, 8004 Zürich

I’ve raved about Bar Lupo before, and I’ll keep raving for ages. Bar Lupo is simply too good to keep quiet about! It’s one of those casual restaurants in Zurich where you can go for any occasion. From an impromptu girls’ night to a low-key date, it’s perfect for moments when you want great food without the fuss. The pasta here is some of the best in Zurich, hands down. The best part? You can just show up, no reservations are required (aka they don’t take reservations).

Bar Lupo makes THE BEST ragú I’ve ever had.

Friends Corner

Address: Josefstrasse 146, 8005 Zürich

If you haven’t heard of Friends Corner yet, you’re in for a treat! Tucked away in a vibrant foodie neighborhood, this unassuming little restaurant is one of my go-to spots for Sri Lankan cuisine in Zurich. The spice levels are spot on, and the flavors are absolutely wonderful— and, they don’t tone down the taste here like so many other places do. It’s all about authentic, traditional dishes done right.

The atmosphere is extremely casual, making it perfect for an easy dinner. Just a heads-up: the service can be a bit slow at times, but that’s part of the charm. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy the delicious food, and not feel rushed. If you’re in the mood for something different, and definitely feel like you are taking out of the city, Friends Corner is definitely a must-visit in Zurich’s casual dining scene.

Foodie Tip: I always get the ‘Basmati rice meat’ with a side of roti. It’s a biriyani rice dish, served with three different curries, plus an egg. It includes their daal which is absolutely amazing!

tsuru tsuru noodle bar

Address: Schützengasse 5, 8001 Zürich

I have to admit, I avoided tsuru tsuru noodle bar for quite a while, mainly because it’s located in an area of town I’m not particularly fond of—near Bahnhofstrasse, which often gets overshadowed by tourist traps and plain terrible food. But, was I surprised when I finally walked in! This cozy spot serves up authentic udon, and I was immediately impressed by the inviting atmosphere, great service, and even better food. It’s the perfect casual dining restaurant where you can enjoy a satisfying meal without any pretense. If you’re in the mood for some comforting noodles—tsuru tsuru noodle bar is a hidden gem that deserves a spot on your list of casual restaurants in Zurich!

Foodie Tip: I suggest making reservations here at least a few days in advance, as it can get quite busy due to the location.

Lang Thai Pub

Address: Hohlstrasse 49, 8004 Zürich

If you’re looking for an easy date night or a fun dinner with friends, Lang Thai Pub is one of my favorites where you can keep it casual—no dressing up required. As the name suggests, this place serves delicious Thai food with a unique twist: a sharing and snacking-style menu that’s perfect for those who love to sample a bit of everything.

The menu is sharing style, and if you sit outside, you’ll find yourself at a communal table that brings the sharing vibe even closer. Their red curry, spicy Som Tum Thai papaya salad, and chicken satay are absolutely wonderful.

Foodie Tip: I’ve had my struggles finding good Thai food in Zurich, especially since I can be a bit picky after spending time in Thailand, but Lang Thai Pub never disappoints. It hits the spot every time, making it a must-visit in Zurich’s casual dining scene!

Lou’s

Address: Zweierstrasse 106, 8003 Zürich

One of my favorite spots for good, simple, American style food is Lou’s. It’s consistently delicious and it’s a spot that I’ve never needed a reservation at. I love their chicken and waffles, smash burgers, and their side of macaroni and cheese is absolutely delicious.

Foodie Tip: Every Wednesday at Lou’s is wing Wednesday (something my American readers will know and love!). I don’t know what is more casual, or delicious, than that.

Yu-An

Address: Werdstrasse 66, 8004 Zürich

Sushi can be hit or miss in Zurich, but since it’s my favorite food, I’m always on the hunt for the best spots. Yu-An is one place that consistently impresses me with its excellent sashimi and rolls. We’ve never been able to make a reservation, as they are always booked, but we’ve been lucky to snag a table each time. But I would avoid heading there right at 7 PM when the dinner rush hits. This casual spot is perfect for stopping in after a day of errands or a hike in the mountains.

Cheyenne

Address: Querstrasse 3, 8050 Zürich

Another spot I’ve talked about before for awesome beer: Where to Get the Best Beer in Zurich, is Cheyenne. It’s a laid back spot serving awesome beer, burgers, wings, and salads. It’s our go-to spot when we are a craving a piece of food from back home (nothing reminds me more of the US than wings, fries and a big BBQ chicken salad).

zurich casual restaurants you will love for a great salad and wings

Dieci Pizza (for a casual night in!)

Address: Locations vary throughout the city.

Dieci Pizza is a take-out only spot (except for their one eat-in restaurant in Rapperswil), and let me tell you, if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! Some people might not be fans, but honestly, I think they’re SO WRONG. Dieci’s pizza reminds me of classic New York-style slices, and that brings me so much joy—there’s nothing quite like it. + where else can you find a massive 40cm pizza for just 34 CHF?! It’s perfect for a casual night in, whether you’re binge-watching your favorite show or having a low-key dinner with friends.

dieci in on the list for the best zurich casual restaurants

Foodie Tip: We always pick-up Dieci pizza and bring it to the lake for a night playing cards, swimming, drinking beer and soaking in summer.

I hope you enjoyed this foodie guide! Have you tried any of these spots? Let me know in the comments below. And don’t forget to follow me on social media for more travel and dining tips. Happy eating!
