There are plenty of bars in Zurich, but coming from the West Coast, I often found the vibe here to be different. In Zurich city center, you’ll frequently find yourself surrounded by luxury brands, quiet conversations, and an atmosphere that can feel a bit formal. Don’t get me wrong, I love a fancy bar as much as anyone, but in the summer, I just want to feel comfortable and relaxed.

When I talk about a “summer bar,” I’m thinking of a place that truly captures the essence of those perfect sunny days and warm, laid-back evenings. When we first moved here, I spent a lot of time googling bars with late hours, outdoor seating, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I wasn’t looking for stuffy, upscale places where I needed to order a $25 cocktail and dress up. That’s not my vibe, especially not in summer. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find many options that fit the bill [nor hardly any good blog posts on Zurich], so I made it my mission to discover the best summer bars in Zurich with great outdoor seating during our first year here.

La Catedral is very high on my list of favorites in Zurich as every single time I am so impressed by not only the cocktails, but the FOOD! It’s is so good. They have a great outdoor patio (it’s not huge), so make sure to book a reservation. The serves here are super friendly, always making sure you aren’t without a drink, and leave you with a signature good-bye drink before you go.
This is inside because #zurichrain loves to come in and ruin your perfect outdoor drinking evening.

Gamper Bar is a cozy spot with a minimalist vibe, known for its natural wine. The small, but charming outdoor area is ideal for a relaxed evening, making it perfect for a low-key night out.
Tip: They typically have a variety of orange wines, that you must try! Also make sure to order some snacks – their mussels, mushrooms & (not pictured) Tête de Moine is amazing.

The International Beer Bar offers a vast selection of international beers in a casual setting. Any of their diverse beer options can be enjoyed in their laid-back outdoor seating area, great for casual hangouts. It’s a fantastic place to try beers from around the world.
Tip: They have a great selection of beers on draft, as well as cans! When you open a tab you get a funny little lego person – cute right?
