As someone who’s actually been to these places, I know how important it is to feel comfortable yet stylish while traveling. I’m all about practical outfits that fit the destination and weather—but also look great in photos. When I pack, I always head to Pinterest for inspiration, but I also rely on my own travel experiences to help me put together the perfect looks. So, if you’re looking for real-world outfit ideas that work on the ground (not just on Pinterest!), you’re in the right place!

What is the Weather like in Spring in Rome, Italy?

Spring in Rome runs from March to May, and the weather shifts from chilly mornings to sunny afternoons. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • March: Cool and fresh (50-65°F / 10-18°C), occasional rain, still a bit of a winter feel.
  • April: Warmer days (55-70°F / 13-21°C), sunny afternoons, peak bloom season.
  • May: Almost summer vibes (60-75°F / 15-24°C), longer daylight hours, perfect for sightseeing.

In my Rome Spring Travel Guide, I go over everything you need to know, from the best attractions to insider tips for an unforgettable trip. Be sure to check that out for more details here!

Packing Tips for Spring

When packing for Rome in the spring, think layers and versatility. Since the weather can be a little unpredictable and vary throughout the day, think cooler mornings, warm afternoons, and occasional rain showers. This means having the right pieces is super important to keep you comfortable all day long.

Layer Up | Mornings and evenings can be chilly, however the afternoons can feel warm—so light layers are a must!

Comfortable Shoes | Rome is a walking city and you’ll for sure get your steps in! Sneakers, stylish flats, or low-heeled boots are ideal for those cobblestone streets. Just make sure to not bring a brand new pair of shoes, you don’t want blisters!

Day-to-Night Outfits | Rome has a stylish, yet effortless vibe. Pack outfits that can easily transition from sightseeing to dinner (this is where jackets came come into play!).

Lightweight Jackets | Whether it’s a trench coat, denim jacket, or lightweight blazer, having an outer layer is essential. (I cover my favorites in this post!)

Rome Spring Travel Outfits

Each of these outfits features a jacket or light layer because for me, that’s what worked best for me while I’ve been in Rome in the Spring. If you’re unsure which jacket to bring, I break down the best options in my post: The Best Lightweight Jackets for Europe in The Spring.

For now, let’s get into six stylish outfit ideas that will have you looking effortlessly chic while exploring Rome!

Heading to the Roman Colosseum

The Colosseum tends to be a bit chillier compared to the rest of the city, thanks to the shaded areas and stone. This is the perfect day to rock some chic black trousers, a breezy linen crop top, and layer it with a classic white button-down for extra warmth. Comfort is key, so make sure to slip on your favorite tennis shoes—you’re going to be doing a lot of walking!

Exploring the Vatican Museum (& the Gardens)

For visit the Vatican you’ll want to wear light clothes in Spring, as it can be crowded in the museum and much warmer. However, you’ll still want to dress respectful. This light cotton dress, paired with comfy tennis shoes and a white button down shirt is the perfect out for this day. As you leave the Vatican and head back outside, you can peel off your button down and layer it over your shoulders for the perfect look!
